How to use Exolus Web

Everything you need to get the most out of Exolus Web.

Installation

Exolus Web is available for Windows 10/11 and macOS 12 or later. Download the installer from the Download page and follow the steps below.

Windows

Run the downloaded .exe installer and follow the setup wizard. Exolus Web will be added to your Start Menu and Desktop automatically.

macOS

Open the downloaded .dmg file, then drag Exolus Web to your Applications folder. On first launch, macOS may ask for Screen Recording and Microphone permissions — both are required.

💡 Exolus Web requires Screen Recording permission on macOS. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording and enable it for Exolus Web.

Your first recording

Once installed, open Exolus Web and click New Recording. You'll see a source selector:

  • Full Screen — captures your entire display
  • Window — captures a specific application window
  • Region — lets you draw a custom capture area

Select your source, optionally enable webcam and microphone, then click Record. A 3-second countdown will begin.

To stop recording, press Ctrl+Shift+S (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+S (macOS), or click the Stop button in the recording toolbar.

Hotkeys

All hotkeys can be customised in Settings → Keyboard Shortcuts.

Start/Stop Recording ......... Ctrl+Shift+R Pause Recording .............. Ctrl+Shift+P Take Screenshot .............. Ctrl+Shift+C Toggle Webcam ................ Ctrl+Shift+W Toggle Microphone ............ Ctrl+Shift+M Open Annotation Tools ........ Ctrl+Shift+A Drop Bookmark ................ Ctrl+Shift+B

Export settings

After recording or editing, click Export in the top right corner. Exolus Web supports the following formats:

  • MP4 (H.264 / H.265) — recommended for most use cases
  • MOV — best for macOS and Final Cut Pro compatibility
  • WebM — optimised for web embedding
  • GIF — for short clips and demos
💡 For the smallest file size without visible quality loss, use H.265 (HEVC) at the default bitrate setting.
